Designing a website for your target audience, NOT for you

If you don’t know exactly who your target market and target audience are, you’re in trouble before you have even begun!

Something important that everyone embarking on building a website should know (and if I’m honest, I’ve seen too many times that people forget) – your personal preference for website design doesn’t really matter…It really doesn’t!

When building your website it should be designed for your Target Market as ultimately regardless of the business or industry there is one purpose that a website servers and that is to bring your brand to users and connect with your Target Audience.

So with this in mind, how do you find your target audience?
Grab a pen and paper, and get stuck into answer the questions below!

 

  • Where does your audience live?
  • What industry do they work in?
  • What are their fears?
  • What demographic are you targeting?
  • What does your ideal customer enjoy doing in their spare time?
  • What do they most care about?
  • Who do they go to when they need advice?
  • What websites do they frequent online?
  • What types of content do they most enjoy online?
  • In what ways does the product or service you sell make your audience’s life better or easier?

If you have a go at answering some of these questions, it will allow you get custom clarity and it will help you understand what you want your website to achieve for you.
